Rockwall council authorizes Rotary Club to install Peace Pole in San Jacinto Square

The Rockwall City Council unanimously authorized the city manager and city attorney to execute an agreement with the Rotary Club of Rockwall to install an 8‑foot Peace Pole in San Jacinto Square.
Kenda Culpepper, president of the Rotary Club and Rockwall County district attorney, told council the club had purchased the pole and a commemorative plaque and had worked with city staff and Parks & Rec to identify a site near the bricked garden by Fable & Fire. She said the pole will carry the inscription “May peace prevail on Earth” in English, Spanish, Hebrew and Chinese and that the Rotary will fund purchase and installation costs.
“We will pay for all expenses,” Culpepper said, adding the club planned a dedication ceremony on April 2. She said the club had coordinated with Parks & Rec to avoid disturbing underground infrastructure and proposed an upright concrete plinth so the pole would be secure.
The mayor made a motion to authorize the city manager and city attorney to execute the agreement, Councilmember Thomas seconded, and the council approved the authorization unanimously.
The action allows staff to finalize an agreement that will document the club’s responsibilities for installation and long‑term maintenance. Council members thanked the Rotary for its local service.
