Mantua council adopts time limits, quarterly work sessions and unanimously adjourns closed meeting

At a Feb. 19 work session, the Mantua Town Council agreed to a package of procedural changes designed to shorten meetings and give residents more time to review agenda items.
Among the changes the council recorded were a new meeting rhythm that keeps regular monthly council meetings while adding quarterly work sessions in February, May, August and November; a time-box approach limiting presentations to 5–10 minutes with a firm 90-minute cap on the entire meeting; and a rule that agenda items must be finalized at least one week before a council meeting so residents can prepare for public comment.
During the meeting, Mayor Pro Tempore Matt Jeppsen moved to adjourn the closed meeting; Council Member Cheryl Burgan seconded. The council recorded yes votes from Mayor Annette Ash, Matt Jeppsen, Scott Ross and Cheryl Burgan; there were no no votes or abstentions. The motion passed.
The meeting record lists the time of adjournment as 6:00 P.M. The procedural updates are intended to make meetings more efficient and respectful of participants’ time; the council will apply the new rules in forthcoming sessions.
