Liberty Club seeks $89,000 pavilion at Rotary Park; prevention group requests April awareness walk

Nikki Powers, acting president of the Liberty Club of Anaconda, asked the commission to support a pavilion project at Rotary Park. Powers said the club plans to "install a pavilion 20 by 40 feet, and it will cost about $89,000. We want to start in May and finish it by the June." She said the club ordered the pavilion from a Pennsylvania vendor and plans to have Hanson Builders assemble it after concrete is poured. Powers told commissioners the club already has funds and that the construction will not cost the county money.

Earlier in the meeting, Sue Connor, a prevention specialist with Southwest Montana Prevention, described plans for a child-abuse-prevention awareness walk (the state is referring to April as a "strengthening the family" month). Connor said the group seeks a special-events permit for the event at Ben/Betty/Benny Goodman Park, plans luminaries and indoor children's activities, and is coordinating with other agencies in town.

Commissioners thanked both presenters, asked organizers to coordinate logistics and insurance with county staff, and agreed to place the permit and event requests on the agenda for formal consideration.
