County to advertise $1.76 million street-rehabilitation project for bids

Klein (speaker 12) said the project scope includes asphalt and base-course rehabilitation on sections of Cherry, Oak and Washington streets, replacement of deteriorated curb and gutter, upgrades to storm-drain catch basins and extensions to address localized drainage problems, pavement re-striping and the addition of several four-way stops. She estimated the probable cost at $1,757,506 and proposed a pre-bid conference on March 17 with bids due March 21.
Commissioner questions focused on schedule and completion. Klein said the county typically aims for substantial completion by mid-September to avoid winter weather impacts; final contract approval and notice-to-proceed would follow bid opening and submittal reviews. The presenter noted last year's larger project (18 blocks) met a similar mid-September completion.
Commission action: A commissioner moved and seconded approval to advertise for bids on the project; the motion passed on a voice vote. Staff will return with the bid results and recommended contract award after the March bid opening.
What to watch: The commission did not award the contract at the meeting; residents and businesses along the corridor may see construction in summer 2025 if the project proceeds on schedule.
