Summary
On Jan. 13 the City Council adopted Ordinance O25-02 to add two seats (School District and County) to the Laurel Urban Renewal Agency board, elected Thomas Canape as Council President and Richard Klose as Vice President, appointed Tony Contreraz to the Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board, and approved routine consent items.
The City Council of the City of Laurel unanimously adopted Ordinance No. O25-02 on Jan. 13, amending Title 20, Chapter 02 of the Laurel Municipal Code to add two seats to the Laurel Urban Renewal Agency (LURA) in order to accommodate recent state legislative changes requiring School District and County representation.
Forrest Sanderson, LURA Coordinator, told the council the state legislature recently required that the School District and the County have seats on the LURA board; the ordinance adds two additional seats to comply with that change. The ordinance was adopted on a roll call vote of 8-0 after a second reading.
Council also conducted internal business: Thomas Canape was elected Council President and Richard Klose was elected Council Vice President; both positions were confirmed by roll call votes of 8-0. The council approved the mayor’s appointment of Tony Contreraz to the Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board to complete a term ending Dec. 31, 2026. Consent items, including claims and payroll registers for PPE 12/20/2025 ($254,389.89) and PPE 1/4/2026 ($286,180.77), were approved unanimously.
The council noted a closed executive session on litigation was postponed because the City Attorney was unavailable and will be rescheduled. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
All motions and votes were recorded in the official minutes; the transcript and staff materials supplied to the council were the sources for this summary.
