The City of Laurel Budget and Finance Committee on Feb. 10 approved routine financial business, including the Jan. 27 meeting minutes, a purchase requisition for two new water‑plant meters and several financial registers. Committee member Tom Canape moved to approve the minutes; Casey Wheeler seconded and, with no objection, the minutes were approved.
Clerk/Treasurer Kelly Strecker presented a purchase requisition for two large meters at the city’s water plant on behalf of Matt Wheeler. Strecker said one meter that failed is in the clear well and is used to dose chlorine accurately; the second is intended to replace the aging total flow meter that measures water leaving the plant. The older meter will be kept as a backup. Committee member Tom Canape moved to approve the requisition; committee member Jessica Banks seconded and the motion passed with no objection.
The committee also approved the claims and check register for items entered through Feb. 6, 2026, after a motion from Casey Wheeler and a second from Tom Canape. Casey Wheeler moved to approve the payroll register for the pay period ending Feb. 1, 2026, which totaled $274,962.29; that motion carried with no objection. The committee approved January 2026 utility billing adjustments following a motion by Wheeler and a second from Canape.
Other routine items reviewed included comp/OT reports for the pay period ending Feb. 1, 2026. Clerk/Treasurer Kelly Strecker said she finished the quarterly reports for the Transit Program and submitted the required drug-and-alcohol report to the Federal Transit Administration; that report is due Feb. 13, 2026. The committee set its next meeting for Feb. 24, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
