The Sheridan City Council voted to authorize submission of a Mineral Royalty Grant (MRG) application requesting $710,000 toward the purchase of a new fire engine for Sheridan Fire Rescue.
Heather, the fleet administrative coordinator, told council Sheridan has two engines more than 17 years old and that replacement timing and price volatility affect procurement. "The application is requesting that $710,000," she said, and staff noted the application is due Feb. 19 and will be considered by the state in June. Heather added the city must match the grant funds at 100 percent and that $250,000 has already been allocated in the FY26 budget toward the purchase.
Staff said lead times mean an awarded grant may not result in delivery for several years; they also noted engine two had already been ordered earlier this month. Council moved, seconded and approved the resolution authorizing submission of the application and delegated authority to the public-works director, Hans Mercer, to act on the application on the city’s behalf.
Council and staff discussed funding options, including general fund and GPET dollars, and noted the city will plan for the full match over the procurement period.
