Council accepts Gillespie Draw subdivision infrastructure; staff confirms one-year contractor warranty remains

The Sheridan City Council voted to accept ownership and operation of public infrastructure in the Gillespie Draw subdivision, including a newly installed fire hydrant and associated waterline work.

Council member Patsy moved to transfer the item from consent to new business; after staff discussion, council voted to accept the infrastructure. Dan, a city staff member standing in for the presenter, explained the contractor remains responsible for defects for one year from the date of final completion. "In the case of public infrastructure ownership, it is one year from final completion," he said when asked whether the contractor obligation would continue even after the city accepted ownership.

Council asked whether the acceptance would cut short the contractor’s obligation; Dan and other staff confirmed the one-year warranty runs from final completion (which staff said occurred in December), and the contractor — identified in discussion as Wagner — would remain responsible to return and repair any work that fails within that one-year period.

After questions, council made and seconded a motion for final acceptance; the motion carried by voice vote.

The acceptance transfers operation and maintenance responsibility to the city while preserving the contractor’s warranty obligations for the warranty period specified in construction documentation.
