The City of Cody city council approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone Lots 1–12 and the north 55 feet of Lots 15 and 16 of Block 14 from R-3 (medium-density residential) to D-2 (general business).
Staff explained that seven of the nine lots included in the request have asked to rezone to D-2 and that the properties lie on the south side of Beck Avenue. Staff said 32 adjacent properties were notified within 140 feet, one written objection within 100 feet was recorded in the staff report, and the applicants provided written consent for the seven lots included in the proposed change. The planning, zoning, and adjustment board held a public hearing but reported no members of the public protested the rezone at that hearing; a prior motion at the P&Z recommended D-1 but failed due to lack of quorum.
During the presentation staff read an email submitted by one applicant, Jan (Jen) Riley, who wrote that the neighborhood’s traffic patterns indicate the area is no longer residential and asked council to support the zoning change. In the staff summary, city staff stated that the change would align zoning with existing uses shown on a map presented to council.
Council moved to approve the ordinance on first reading and the motion carried. The ordinance remains at first reading; additional hearings or administrative steps required for final adoption were not specified in the discussion.
The council did not receive public testimony at the meeting on this item. Any future hearing notices or final-reading schedules will be posted in accordance with municipal procedure.
