The University of Illinois Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Chancellor Robert J. Jones for his service as chancellor of the Urbana-Champaign campus and as a vice president of the University of Illinois system.
Chair Ruiz introduced a proposed resolution that cited Chancellor Jones’s leadership through the sesquicentennial celebration, pandemic response, the Illinois Commitment tuition program and expanded research funding. President Killeen and multiple trustees lauded Jones’s work; Trustee comments highlighted enrollment milestones, increases in tenured faculty and gains in sponsored research. The board approved the resolution as part of the voice-vote agenda.
Chancellor Jones responded with remarks thanking colleagues and reflecting on his time at Illinois, saying, “I am deeply humble… I love you with all of my heart.” The board said the resolution expressed its deepest gratitude and wished him well in his next position.
