CRA hears downtown maintenance updates; Sanborn Square renovation timing shifted

Ruby Riley, downtown manager, reported to the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency on Feb. 24 that staff has advanced several downtown maintenance projects and recommended a revised schedule for Sanborn Square renovations.
Riley told the board that security-camera planning for Meisner Park is underway in coordination with IT and municipal services to determine camera counts, locations and fiber/power connectivity. She said contracted cleaning has been completed for Downtown Boca-branded umbrellas, benches and trash bins have been repainted, and resodding of the park's south end is in progress with completion expected shortly.
On Sanborn Square, Riley noted that the project has design funding in the current fiscal year and construction dollars in fiscal year 2026 but recommended delaying the full renovation timeline so design work would start in 2027 with construction following in 2028; staff cited the need to align spending with grant rules that require expenditure of funds by 2030.
Board members asked follow-up questions about receptacles and recycling in downtown locations, including Palmetto Park Road and Sanborn Square; Riley said recycling bins are being installed in Sanborn Square, Meisner Park and throughout downtown and that staff would evaluate specific locations raised by council members.
No formal action was taken on the Sanborn Square schedule at the meeting; staff presented the recommended timing and will return with further details if council requests formal approval of a schedule or procurement steps.
