An Anastasia Colas told the Boca Raton City Council on March 17 that the city needs a dedicated cyber response capacity and that she is willing to help form a volunteer cyber police force or provide staffing to address local cybercrime.
Colas described cybercriminal activity she says is targeting local infrastructure and cited examples she said appear in the materials she submitted to the council. "I am willing to establish a police force or even just a volunteer force to combat this for free," she said, but added that certain costs '1 transportation, equipment and training '1 would be necessary. She said she has collected more than 50 signatures supporting the proposal and asked the city to consider funding and technical training for a cyber response team.
City procedure and response: The chair asked Colas to conclude when her speaking time expired and directed staff to accept the materials she left for the city clerk. Colas returned later in the meeting to connect her proposal to other public comments and to suggest a model she described as generating funds for development through cyber activities; staff did not take action during the meeting.
What happens next: Colas said she will leave her packet with the clerk for staff review. The council did not schedule follow-up during the meeting.
