Boca Raton City Council names Fran Nachlis deputy mayor; fills CRA and committee posts

At its March 31, 2025 organizational meeting, the Boca Raton City Council selected Council member Fran Nachlis as deputy mayor and approved a series of leadership and representative appointments to local and regional boards.
Mayor Singer opened the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance, noting the anniversary of the council’s swearing-in and saying, “It remains an honor to serve with all of you.” The council then conducted roll call and proceeded to organize leadership roles for the new term.
A council member nominated Council member Fran Nachlis to serve as deputy mayor; another council member seconded the motion. The council approved the nomination by voice vote, and the presiding officer congratulated Deputy Mayor Nachlis.
The council also appointed Council member Wigder as chair and Council member Thompson as vice chair of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). Those appointments were moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
Under Ordinance 56 91, the council named Council member Thompson as the city’s representative to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee; that motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
On appointments to non-city boards, a council member nominated themselves to return to the Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) executive board with Fran Nachlis and council colleagues serving as alternates; the council approved the slate by voice vote. The clerk noted the TPA has changed its policy to limit alternates to two.
The council reappointed Yvette Trucker as the Palm Beach County League of Cities voting delegate and named Mister Wigder as the alternate; that motion also passed via voice vote.
Finally, the council named Council member Thompson as representative to the Interlocal Plan Amendment Review Committee (IPARC) and agreed on an alternate (the presiding officer volunteered). During that item members discussed whether TPA and IPARC assignments overlap, noting TPA’s role in transportation policy and IPARC’s role with the comprehensive plan and master transportation plan.
All actions recorded in the transcript were approved by voice vote with no roll-call tallies provided in the record. With no further business, the mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
