Boca Raton CRA highlights pedestrian bridge, Brightline platform and other downtown projects

The Boca Raton CRA used its March 17 director's report to highlight a slate of ongoing and planned downtown projects funded through tax increment financing and other local efforts.
The chair said the agency has "retained and allocated tax increment financing funds where they belong for transformative projects, including the critically important future pedestrian bridge that will enhance downtown connectivity, a second BrightLine platform to allow for a more comprehensive schedule that works better for Boca, and upgrades to the Mizer Park Amphitheater and open space." The chair credited past voter-approved plans for helping attract new businesses and residents downtown.
Officials also described completed and planned public-realm improvements such as repainting of gazebos and benches, branded pavement and utility box wraps in Sanborn Square, plans for security cameras in the Mizer Park corridor, and restoration of downtown fountains. The CRA said it will pilot parking-space sensors to improve parking access and efficiency and expand the free Boca Connect shuttle to the Barrier Island.
The chair announced the CRA will bring in urban-design consultant Jeff Speck to guide downtown safety, walkability and connectivity work in coordination with previous plans by Alta Planning and Design.
Why it matters: These projects are intended to improve pedestrian safety, mobility and the visitor experience in Downtown Boca Raton. Several are multi-year and may be affected by broader policy decisions at the state level.
