The Rockwall Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 12 approved an amended site plan for Patriot Paws Service Dogs, allowing design changes and adding a deck amenity intended for veterans and staff.
Henry (S12), staff, said Patriot Paws began operations at the site in 2010 and received a prior site-plan approval in 2014. The applicant requests a 20-by-20 deck and an additional structure described in the packet as approximately 20-by-12 and up to 8 feet in height located between two buildings; staff said the proposed accessory structure does not meet some commercial articu- lation/roof-design standards but that landscaping and placement limit visibility from Ranch Trail.
Applicant Bill Wells (S8) said Patriot Paws has expanded to five buildings on the 3.44-acre site and that a donor offered the deck to provide a quiet amenity overlooking the detention pond for veterans staying on site. Commissioner (S4) moved to approve the amended site plan; the commission voted 6–0 with Commissioner Connolly absent. Staff confirmed this approval is final and will not go to City Council.
The amended site plan approval updates the public record to reflect changes made to the property over time and permits the new deck amenity described by the applicant.
