Rockwall parks staff outline repairs, new playgrounds and spring events

Brian Sarton delivered the parks operations update, summarizing recent maintenance and upcoming projects across Rockwall parks.

Sarton said crews completed concrete pours at Laughlin Park for a memorial bench site, installed water fountains at some locations and undertook washout repairs at the 66 Boat Ramp. Staff also added new signage at the museum, performed urban dirt work and tree trimming, and completed upgrades at Kids Zone with new canopies.

At Stone Creek Park, staff are finishing the trail system around the pond and starting pier installation; the full loop around the old and new trail measures roughly half a mile. Sarton said Fox Chase playground equipment is installed and the Parks Department expects to open bids for a splash ground replacement at Harry Myers the following day, with a plan to take the item to city council on Jan. 20 and begin construction so the facility could be ready before April 1.

Sarton reviewed recent and upcoming events, noting the parade, Hometown Christmas activities and a successful breakfast with Santa that drew about 350 people. He said spring programming will include a special‑needs Easter egg hunt in March, a spring extravaganza with bounce houses and free activities for children, a pet shot clinic in partnership with the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection, and preliminary planning for Concert by the Lake and Founders Day.

"We put in some water fountains. People like water," Sarton said, summarizing small amenity improvements intended to increase park use. Board members thanked staff for parade and holiday efforts and asked a few operational questions about park maintenance and scheduling.
