The Cody Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board on Dec. 4 approved three commercial sign reviews, granting staff-recommended approval for applications at 1128 12th Street (Sips Coffee Company), 1001 12th Street (Staley Engineering and Associates Inc.) and 3430 Bighorn Avenue (Sprague Roofing). All approvals were recorded as voice votes and are subject to final approval of a resolution of findings.
Jenny, a city staff member presenting the applications, described the first as “a sign application for 2 attached wall signs at 1128 12th Street as shown in the staff summary.” For the 1001 12th Street application, Jenny said the proposal placed signage on each street-side window and again pointed the board to the staff summary for details.
Board members raised one substantive implementation question during the discussion of the Sprague Roofing application: whether existing exterior light fixtures would need to be upgraded to meet current standards. A board member asked whether nonconforming lights would have to be brought up to current standards. Jenny replied, “If it's already existing and they're there, I believe they can continue to use them until such time as the fixture needs [replacement],” and noted that building-permit review would address code compliance when fixtures are replaced.
Motions to approve the three sign reviews were made and carried on voice votes. The transcript records the makers and seconders as follows: the motion to approve the Sips Coffee Company sign review was stated as moved by Dan and seconded by Joe; the Staley Engineering application was moved by Joe and seconded by Sarah; and the Sprague Roofing item was moved by Joe and seconded by Dan. In each case the chair called for ayes, the board responded, and the chair declared the motion approved, subject to final approval of the findings resolution.
The board had no public hearings or tabled items on the agenda and heard brief staff remarks about potential January items. The meeting adjourned after the approvals.
