Erin Nelson, Bluff’s town manager, presented a spreadsheet to the council on Jan. 13 listing all boards and commissions with current town representation and suggested ways to assign attendees and liaisons.
Council discussed multiple boards: the Utah League of Cities and Towns Legislative Policy Committee (three seats were noted, with Mayor Josh Ewing, Spencer Wade and Britt Hornsby listed), the Local Emergency Planning Committee (Nelson said she is the town’s Emergency Point of Contact and Gary Haws expressed interest in the second seat), the San Juan County Tourism Tax Advisory Board (Jennifer Davila recommended a municipal representative because Bluff collects the most municipal transient room tax), and the County Economic Development Board (noted leader: Talia Hansen).
Nelson said Planning and Zoning notes can be prepared by staff and council can attend meetings as schedules allow; council members agreed to rotate attendance at San Juan County Commission meetings and to monitor agendas to determine in‑person priorities. Britt Hornsby agreed to serve as the Council contact for the Roads Department and Mayor Ewing will confirm whether Luanne Hook will continue as a liaison.
The discussion identified existing representatives (for example, Lois Young on the San Juan County Public Health Board) and called for council review of applicants for boards with upcoming vacancies. No formal appointments or votes were taken at the work session.
