Bluff announces cemetery board openings, mapping update and CDBG hearing

Town staff announced that the cemetery board application period is open and that interested residents must submit a letter of interest and a resume to manager@townofbluffutah.gov by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
"The cemetery board application is open. The deadline for applications is 5PM on Tuesday, January 13," staff said, and advised potential applicants to review the cemetery management ordinance passed in December to understand the board's likely responsibilities.
Councilmembers described work to mark unmarked graves after a ground-penetrating radar survey identified subsurface anomalies. Councilmember Gary Hawes said he and Councilmember Spencer Wade placed rebar markers at several sites to help protect identified burials while the town awaits a formal mapping report from Century Mapping.
"We put those in so people can't mess up. So, well, now if they do, at least it's vandalism and not just an accident," Hawes said, describing the temporary markers and plans to add reflective tape to make them visible to visitors.
Staff said they expect the mapping report within a few weeks and will coordinate with the appointed cemetery board members once the board is seated and mapping data are confirmed. The town also reminded residents that it will hold a Community Development Block Grant public hearing at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the same building; residents can join electronically through the regular council Zoom link.
