Garden Grove board honors spelling-bee champions and employees of the month

Assistant Superintendent Lisa Swart introduced Sofia Hua, the district’s 4th–6th grade spelling-bee champion from Hill Elementary, who won after competing against 43 site winners. Dr. Stephanie Heflin (assistant superintendent, secondary) introduced the intermediate champion, Minh from Jordan Intermediate, who spelled “echidna” to secure the title and later placed 10th at the county competition.
Assistant Superintendent Jason Bivowa presented the March employees of the month: certificated employee Tyler Cassellini (Los Amigos, art and digital media teacher) and classified employee Trang Vo (school community liaison, Cook Elementary). The board showed a short video spotlight and invited the honorees and their guests to join trustees for photos.
Speakers praised the students’ hard work and the employees’ dedication; teachers and parents in the audience offered brief testimonials. No formal vote was required for the recognitions.
