Health department to expand 2026 respiratory-illness data collection to track hospitalizations and vaccination status

Rebecca Wold and Robbie Deede briefed the committee on respiratory illness activity and plans for expanded data collection in 2026. Wold reviewed Quarter 4 respiratory-illness highlights and Deede said the department will examine flu- and COVID-related hospitalizations next year, including analysis of vaccination status among those requiring hospitalization.
Deede also described weekly syndromic surveillance conducted in schools, which the department uses to assess community health and detect trends. The presentation did not include numeric hospitalization counts or program budget changes; committee members asked clarifying questions about the proposed data expansion during discussion.
