Commission awards groundskeeping contract, approves EMS funding and several administrative agreements

The Calhoun County Commission unanimously awarded groundskeeping work among three vendors effective Nov. 1, 2025, approved a $7,634 change order for the jail medical unit, ratified a traffic enforcement agreement and authorized funding and lease agreements including $150,000 to Anniston EMS and $500,000 to Piedmont EMS.
At its Oct. 9 session the Calhoun County Commission approved a package of administrative items including a multi-vendor groundskeeping award, contract amendments, funding agreements for emergency medical services and several county agreements.
County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented a resolution to award groundskeeping and maintenance contracts, effective Nov. 1, 2025, dividing work among Curvin Exterior Care, Maddox Lawn Care/D&B Lawn Service, and Fleming Lawn Care. Commissioner Henderson moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Wilson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Gaddy also presented Change Order #7 for the Jail Medical Unit from Hale Building Company for an additional $7,634 to cover additional ball valves to water lines. Commissioner Patterson moved to authorize the chairman to sign the order; Commissioner Henderson seconded and the motion carried.
The commission ratified a Traffic Enforcement Agreement covering Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026; Commissioner Wilson moved to ratify the chairman’s signature, Commissioner Patterson seconded and the voice vote was unanimous.
Other approvals included an MOU with the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust accepting payment in lieu of taxes of $6,853.02 (calculated at $1.60 per acre for 4,283.1 acres), a lease agreement for the county to resume maintenance of Websters Chapel Park, and funding agreements for Fiscal Year 2026: $150,000 to Anniston Emergency Medical Services, Inc., and $500,000 to Piedmont Emergency Medical Services, Inc. Each item was adopted by unanimous voice vote with motions and seconds recorded in the minutes.
During public comment Sheriff Hurst said he included the Sheriff’s Office lawncare in the groundskeeping bid so more inmates would be available to help with litter patrol; Commissioner Patterson thanked him for the collaboration. Chandy Gordon, a prevention specialist with the Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention, presented thank-you cards to the commission. Dr. Michael Barber, superintendent of Jacksonville City Schools, thanked County Engineer Rodney McCain and the commission for help addressing drainage issues at local schools.
The meeting adjourned at 10:18 a.m.; the commission announced its next meeting for Oct. 23, 2025.
