The Calhoun County Commission used part of its May 8 agenda for community recognitions and an appointment.
Commissioners presented a check to the Alabama Law Enforcement Appreciation Foundation (ALEAF) in recognition of Law Enforcement Week; ALEAF representative Henry Mullinax thanked the commission for its continued support. Commissioner Shears presented a separate check to the Choccolocco Heritage Foundation to support restoration of the historic schoolhouse in Old Choccolocco; Georgia Calhoun described plans to revive the building for community events and educational programming.
County Attorney Julie Borrelli notified the commission of a vacancy on the Calhoun County Water Authority District 2 seat created by the departure of Wilkes Scarbrough. Commissioner Shears moved to appoint Vann Roberts Jr. to fill the unexpired term; Commissioner Wilson seconded the motion and the commission approved the appointment by unanimous voice vote.
The minutes record that the community presentations and the appointment were accepted and that related resolution or grant documents are filed with the commission.
