Recovery advocates, prevention specialists and tourism officials brief Calhoun County commissioners

Several community representatives used the public-comment portion of the Jan. 23 Calhoun County Commission meeting to introduce programs and upcoming events to commissioners.
Curt Lindsey, executive director of the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences (AARR), offered to brief the commission on the organization's accredited recovery residences and described AARR's role assisting reentry and parole/pardon processes. Chandy Gordon, a prevention specialist with A.S.A.P., announced a virtual opioid roundtable scheduled for March and introduced intern Deja Matthews from Gadsden State Community College.
Audrey Maxwell, tourism director for the Chamber of Commerce, highlighted Anniston Museum trail walks tied to Alabama’s Year of Trails and promoted the 45th annual Heritage Festival set for Feb. 15, inviting K–12 students to sign up to speak. Dr. David West, County Extension Coordinator, announced that Master Gardener classes have begun for 2025 and thanked Jonathan Gaddy for visiting the Community Gardens. Wayne Cagle of the McClellan Horse Trails announced a cancer fundraising event and invited the community to visit the trails.
