Calhoun County unveils and adopts official county seal and branding guidelines

Chairman Terry Howell convened the Calhoun County Commission on Oct. 23, 2025, where officials unveiled a new county seal and moved to adopt countywide branding guidelines.
The seal design highlights the Mountain Longleaf Pine, a species presented to the Commission by Dr. David West, Calhoun County Extension Director, who described the tree’s distinguishing needles and cones and its historical ties to the region. Greg Morrow of Southern Custom Exhibits explained that the design traces to a public initiative led in 2008 by then-Commissioner Robert Downing; Downing said he was proud to see the design formally adopted after years on the shelf.
County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented a resolution establishing the seal and a set of branding guidelines intended to promote consistent, clear visual identity across county departments. The Commission voted unanimously to adopt the resolution; the new seal is now displayed behind the Commission bench.
The branding guidelines formalize uses of the seal and visual standards for county communications; the resolution directs county departments to follow the new standards to promote consistency across materials and signage. The County did not specify an implementation timeline in the minutes.
The Commission carried the resolution by unanimous voice vote. The County plans to apply the new seal across county departments and materials going forward.
