Calhoun County awards courtroom, bridge and vehicle contracts; moves forward on several capital projects

The commission unanimously awarded the District Courtroom renovation to Kilgore Construction, awarded Rebuild Alabama bridge projects to The Bridge Builders of Alabama LLC, approved the sheriff's pursuit vehicle bid, accepted rights-of-way for a bridge, and extended several service contracts including pest control and printing (printing extension passed by roll call).
Calhoun County commissioners on Nov. 13 approved a string of capital and procurement actions, awarding contracts for courtroom renovation, two bridge projects and a police pursuit vehicle while extending routine service contracts.
County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented a resolution awarding the District Courtroom Renovation and Expansion contract to Kilgore Construction Inc., identified as the lowest responsible and responsive bidder; the commission approved the award by unanimous voice vote.
Gaddy also presented a resolution awarding Rebuild Alabama bids for the 64th Street Bridge and the Mitchellville Bridge to The Bridge Builders of Alabama LLC, the sole bidder recommended by the county engineer. Commissioners approved the awards unanimously.
The commission approved a sheriff's office police pursuit vehicle bid to Donohoo Chevrolet as recommended by the Sheriff. Commissioners likewise approved declaring certain radio equipment surplus and donating it to Calhoun County 911.
On routine procurement, the commission approved a one-year extension for pest control services with Grissom Solutions d/b/a Orkin Pest Control by unanimous voice vote. A separate one-year extension for printing services with Moore Printing Co. was approved after a roll-call vote; Commissioner Shears recorded an abstention while the other four commissioners voted yes.
The board also adopted a resolution accepting rights-of-way for the Alexandria–Wellington Road Bridge in Alexandria, permitting project progress on that corridor. Resolutions and attached materials for the bids and extensions were recorded in county files.
