Applicants interview for Planning & Zoning and Environmental advisory seats at Boca Raton workshop

At the Jan. 13 Boca Raton City Council workshop, residents interviewed for advisory board seats and the council said it will make appointments at the Jan. 14 meeting.
Monica Mea told the council she lives in Boca Raton and is applying for the Environmental Advisory Board. "My name is Monica Mea, and I reside at 860 Southwest 21st Street in Boca Raton," she said, describing prior service on the council and on the Green Living Task Force and Sustainability Advisory Board and saying she wants to "continue my environmental advocacy in the city." The chair asked council members for any questions and noted appointments would be decided the following evening.
Dorothy McDermott introduced herself as a long‑time community volunteer and a Florida general contractor applying for a Planning and Zoning Board seat. She described community service dating to 1988 and professional involvement in construction and development. "I'd really appreciate your consideration for this seat on the Planning and Zoning Board," she said.
Jordan Sperling also applied for the Planning and Zoning Board. He said he works in the private sector in urban planning and project management, grew up in Boca Raton, holds a master's degree in urban and regional planning from Florida Atlantic University (May 2020) and described eight years of relevant experience. "I consistently analyze every aspect of the design and new development of projects...which I believe will make me a great candidate to be a member of this board," he said.
Process note: the chair reiterated that applicants do not need to be present to be considered and that appointments would be made the next night. No appointments were finalized at the workshop.
