Summary
The Boca Raton Housing Authority reported HUD approval for the disposition of Dixie Manor units and funding for vouchers. About 17 of 90 families are in the relocation process; financial closing is slated for March with demolition within roughly 60 days afterward and construction expected to take about 18 months, with occupancy targeted for January 2027.
The Boca Raton Housing Authority updated the City Council on Jan. 28 about progress on the Dixie Manor redevelopment.
Representing the authority, Ashley Whidbey said HUD has approved the disposition of the Dixie Manor units and the authority has received approval and funding for vouchers to relocate families or support those who choose to stay. "We've already begun relocation, and we have about 17 folks in the process of moving right now," Whidbey said, noting the property has 90 families total.
She said the authority expects to reach financial closing in March and aims to begin demolition within about 60 days of closing. "Construction is slated to take about 18 months," Whidbey said, and the authority is targeting full occupancy at the site in January 2027. She added that tax credits for phase two have already been awarded and that relocation communications include twice-monthly newsletters, resident meetings and a resident consultant to assist families during the transition.
Council members asked about construction documents, permits, and how the authority is coordinating relocation and communication. Whidbey said the developer/contractor is mobilizing to disconnect utilities from units that will be demolished as residents vacate; the authority is meeting with residents frequently and has engaged a relocation consultant and a resident council to coordinate outreach and FAQs.
The City Council did not take formal action on the update but thanked the housing authority for the progress report.
