CRA board weighs separate strategic plan, agrees to February workshop

Members of the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency spent part of the Dec. 9 meeting discussing whether the CRA should have a standalone strategic plan.
Commissioner Wigter said some CRA priorities—such as Palmetto Park Road or Meisner Park projects—may rank higher for the CRA than they do in the citywide list and asked colleagues whether the CRA should develop its own strategic plan or at least a focused set of CRA priorities. "I'd like just to know my colleagues' feelings on if they think the CRA should have its own strategic plan and initiative," he said.
Chair Nattlis expressed support: "I think that's a really good idea," she said, adding that the CRA handles downtown items that might be lower in citywide prioritization and that a focused conversation could clarify those differences.
City staff cautioned that the CRA and city operations remain tightly linked. Mr. Brown noted that the city performs the work for the CRA and suggested any CRA priorities should be integrated with citywide planning: "Remember that the city and the CRA are inextricably linked together," he said. Several members proposed holding a workshop in February, ahead of the Trainovations-led strategic planning sessions in the spring, so the consultant can incorporate CRA priorities into the larger process.
No formal action was taken; the board asked staff to schedule a workshop in February to discuss CRA priorities and how they should align with the city's strategic plan.
