At the Charlevoix County Transportation Authority meeting on Feb. 10, 2026, Transportation Coordinator Joe Kroll proposed changing the fare payment system to Huntington Bank’s merchant point-of-sale terminal in place of Token Transit.
Kroll said Token Transit currently costs the Authority roughly 10% per transaction. He described Huntington Bank’s solution as requiring a one-time terminal purchase of $900, accepting credit cards, storing transaction information for end-of-day transmission, offering automatic deposit with notification to the treasurer, and charging a processing fee of 0.5% plus $0.20 per transaction. Kroll said he will provide detailed cost comparisons and specifications in the next meeting packet.
No vote was taken; members asked for more detailed financial information before any decision.
