The Dorchester County Council on Dec. 2, 2025 approved a package of routine actions and authorized emergency repairs to the Public Safety Building roof. The Council voted 4-0, with Councilman William V. Nichols absent, to award the emergency repair work to AROCON Home Improvement for $69,999 to cover damage above the administrative area and the sheriff’s office; the cost will be paid from the County Contingency Fund.
The actions came after the Council reconvened in open session at 6:21 p.m. Following the roof authorization, the Council approved the Consent Agenda (minutes, accounts payable report, and a letter of support for an Applegarth Tubman Medicine Hill Preservation and Education Foundation grant application). Councilman Ricky C. Travers recorded an abstention from payments made to Simmons Center Market on the accounts payable report.
By ballot the Council reelected George L. Pfeffer, Jr. as Council President and Mike Detmer as Vice President, each by a 4-0 vote (Councilman Nichols absent). The body also reappointed Cherry Moaney to a second two-year term and Vaughn Evans to a third and final two-year term on the Administrative Charging Committee.
The Council authorized staff to proceed with a Request for Proposals to determine costs for replacing the Council Chambers’ audio/visual equipment and agreed to renew membership with the Delmarva Water Transport Committee, Inc. The Council also voted to close County offices on Dec. 26, 2025 in recognition of employees’ service.
The meeting was otherwise procedural: the Council adjourned at 7:41 p.m. and schedule approval of the minutes for Dec. 16, 2025. No ordinances or long-term budget appropriations were adopted at the meeting.
