Irene Barnes, Executive Operations Specialist, said a public hearing was being conducted on the proposed amendment to Chapter 85, Emergency Telephone Charge, ' 85-1. Council President George L. Pfeffer, Jr. opened and closed the hearing after noting the Council had received letters of opposition from the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association and the Verizon Government Affairs Office.
Councilman Ricky C. Travers moved to adopt Bill No. 2025-3; Councilman William V. Nichols seconded the motion, which passed unanimously by roll call. The measure amends the county code to set the 911 fee at $4.25 per subscriber per month.
The bill was presented to the Council during its April 15 meeting at the County Office Building in Cambridge. No public commenters spoke during the hearing. The Council's minutes record the receipt of the industry letters but do not record additional testimony in opposition.
Next steps: the ordinance will be codified under Chapter 85 of the Dorchester County Code according to the County's adoption process.
