Osmond family asks Enoch for $10,000 fireworks sponsorship for July 24 Pioneer Production

Merrill Osmond and his son Justin visited the Enoch City Council on March 4 to present the Youth Pioneer Production and Fireworks Spectacular planned for July 24. Justin Osmond said the family has held large Fourth of July productions in the past (including Stadium of Fire) and described the July 24 program as a youth‑centered Pioneer Production offered free to the public. A video message from Governor Spencer Cox accompanied the presentation.

Justin Osmond told the council production costs had climbed from roughly $120,000 to about $150,000, with fireworks costs nearly doubling; he said the family had secured about $140,000 in fundraising and that Enoch had previously contributed $10,000 as a fireworks sponsor. He left a sponsorship packet with the council and asked the city to consider similar support to cover fireworks expenses, explaining that surplus proceeds for the production benefit the Olive Osmond Hearing Fund for hearing‑impaired children.

Council reaction was mixed. Council Member Jacob Miner said he would like to put a $10,000 donation on the next agenda. Council Member Debra Ley said residents had told her the out‑of‑town production does not necessarily build community in Enoch and cited logistical concerns for families and older residents. Council Member David Harris noted Enoch would host its own July 4 parade and park activities and suggested the city could instead transfer its usual fireworks sponsorship amount to the Osmond organizers while potentially shifting liability. The council agreed to review the sponsorship packet and circulate details among members; no formal vote on funding was recorded at the March 4 meeting.
