Dorchester County Council directs AED discussion, hears public comment on arts center HVAC

The Dorchester County Council on Oct. 21 directed County Manager Jerry Jones to meet with the Dorchester Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee (DEMSAC) to discuss installing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at County-owned parks and sports complexes; the Council noted Recreation & Parks Director Duc Trieu is pursuing fundraising to support the initiative.
During public comment, Judy Slaughter of the Dorchester Center for the Arts requested assistance to replace the Center's HVAC system, which was quoted at roughly $160,000 to replace all seven units. Council President George L. Pfeffer, Jr. asked Slaughter to work with County Manager Jones and Finance Director Karen Tolley to explore whether no-match pass-through grants are available to fund the replacement.
A speaker identified in the minutes as the mayor of Church Creek asked the Council to include municipalities in the AED discussions. The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m. after a 4–0 vote with Councilman Ricky Travers absent.
