Dorchester County Council unanimously adopts new McKeil Point water service area

The County Council of Dorchester County unanimously adopted Resolution No. 684 on Dec. 16, 2025, establishing a new water and wastewater service area to be known as McKeil Point Section One.
The move followed a public hearing conducted by the council in Room 110 of the County Office Building in Cambridge. Sharon Smith, a resident, asked questions about the proposed service area. Pete McElroy, Water & Wastewater Services Director, responded that a Memorandum of Understanding is in place with the City of Cambridge and that there were no concerns specific to this service area.
Resolution No. 684 was brought under the authority of Dorchester County Code §124-2(C). The council adopted the resolution upon a motion by Councilman Ricky C. Travers, seconded by Councilman Mike Detmer; the roll call vote was George L. Pfeffer, Jr. — aye; Mike Detmer — aye; Rob Kramer, Jr. — aye; William V. Nichols — aye; and Ricky C. Travers — aye.
The resolution defines the limits of McKeil Point Section One and authorizes Dorchester County to provide water and wastewater services within that area under the county code provisions cited in the hearing notice. The council did not specify further implementation milestones or a construction timetable during the meeting.
The council meeting packet indicates the hearing and adoption complete the local approval step; any design, permitting or connection activity will proceed under Water & Wastewater Services oversight.
