Marshall County commissioners on March 17 approved multiple highway project contracts and county equipment purchases during a regular board meeting in Warren.
The board accepted Knife River Materials' low bid of $3,376,465.46 for a set of bituminous milling, overlay and culvert-treatment projects covering Marshall County and neighboring Beltrami County corridors, approving the action by motion recorded M/S/C Duckstad, Bring with a 4-0 tally; Commissioner Gary Kiesow abstained. The awards were presented by Highway Engineer Lon Aune.
Separately, the board awarded the aggregate base contract for SAP 045-602-024 (on CSAH 2, between TH 219 and CSAH 54) to Thygeson Construction, Inc., accepting the low bid of $980,907.00 by motion recorded M/S/C Kiesow, Duckstad (5-0).
The board also reviewed tractor quotes and authorized the Highway Engineer to purchase a tractor from Park River Implement, LLC for $202,500.00, approving the purchase by motion recorded M/S/C Nybladh, Kiesow (5-0). In addition, the board accepted a list of equipment rental bids from local contractors for use by the county highway department and related projects; the full list of contractors was recorded in the minutes and the action carried by motion recorded M/S/C Bring, Duckstad (5-0).
Highway staff also briefed the commissioners on related items: motor grader warranty limits (noting a seven-year maximum warranty discussed), a planned May 5 financial presentation, and a 5-year Road and Bridge Plan meeting scheduled for April 9 in Newfolden. County staff discussed the potential use of Vehicle License Tab revenue for road repairs.
The awards and purchase approvals are procedural actions that authorize county staff to proceed with contracting and procurement; the board’s recorded votes and an abstention on the Knife River award are reflected in the meeting minutes.
