Sheriff Jason Boman and Jail Administrator Mark Ellerbusch updated the Marshall County Board of Commissioners on March 3 on the county jail project, saying staff have returned to the Law Enforcement Building and the county expects to resume housing inmates once new locks are installed and the Department of Corrections completes a final review.
The presentation, given during the county's regular meeting, included a discussion of maintenance costs for the Newfolden Tower and an update that a School Resource Officer will be placed in all county schools in the future, according to the sheriff's office. The board toured the jail facility after the update.
Maintenance Supervisor Rodger Haugtvedt and Deputy Auditor/Treasurer Sue Peterson joined the discussion to outline remaining building repairs and funding possibilities. Haugtvedt said he would obtain additional quotes for outstanding work. The board separately approved installing a water softener unit in the Law Enforcement Area as part of the jail remodel project at an approximate cost of $23,000 (motion passed, Duckstad moved; Bring second; vote 5-0).
Board members did not record any changes to the timeline for the project's next steps beyond completing the locks and the Department of Corrections final review. The presentation and tour provided county officials an opportunity to inspect progress and clarify outstanding repair and compliance steps before resuming inmate housing.
