Marie Hester seeks reappointment to Boca Raton Housing Authority; resident cites experience ahead of Dixie Manor redevelopment

Marie Hester presented herself to the council as a current Housing Authority board member seeking reappointment, giving her name and address and describing her time on the board and work with the residents council and the director. "I enjoy being a commissioner and sitting on the housing board... when I first got there, there was a lot of confusion, and we have gotten to the point where we are acting like a professional group of people," Hester said, noting the board recently completed a formal performance evaluation of the director.

Charles Graves addressed the council in support of Hester’s reappointment, saying he has known her for many years and calling her "a hard worker" who will be important as Dixie Manor moves toward redevelopment. "Over the next 5 years, the Housing Authority is gonna go through significant changes through Dixie Manor," Graves said, urging the council to consider a fuller affordable housing committee to accompany the federal-required committee.

The mayor said the council will make appointments at the regular meeting later that evening and that applicants who did not attend would still be considered.
