Fulton County approves $63,800 in probation grants and acknowledges retention stipend proposal

Fulton County’s Board of Commissioners on Dec. 9 authorized two state grants to support the county’s adult probation programs and acknowledged a letter proposing a probation staff retention stipend.
Chief Probation Officer Dan Miller asked the board to accept a 2025–2026 Intermediate Punishment Treatment Grant for $35,000 and a 2025–2026 Continuing County Adult Probation/Parole Grant for $28,800. Commissioner Steven L. Wible moved to authorize Commissioner Randy H. Bunch to sign the grants; the motions carried unanimously.
The board also acknowledged a Retention Efforts Letter from Miller outlining a plan to implement a stipend funded by a portion of the monthly supervision fee. The stipend would be kept in a restricted account and could only be spent by the President Judge for the Adult Probation Department; the board’s acknowledgment does not by itself authorize spending.
The grants fund programming and supervision efforts described by Miller; the retention proposal is a separate administrative mechanism that requires the President Judge’s authorization before any stipend payments could be made. No vote to expend the retained funds was recorded at the meeting.
Next steps: Commissioner Bunch was authorized to execute the grant documents, and implementation of any stipend would depend on the restricted-account processes and a decision by the President Judge.
