Bluff councilors advanced preparatory steps for a proposed cemetery ordinance and a planned contractor award during their Sept. 9 work session.
Mayor Ann K. Leppanen said the draft ordinance will be sent to the town attorney, McAnany, and placed on the agenda for a public hearing in October. The draft is intended to guide town authority over cemetery operations and was presented as part of ongoing work to secure grant funding and improve maintenance.
Town Manager Erin Nelson said she had spoken with Benton of Sentry, who provided references from other municipalities and confirmed that Sentry performs in-person work and could schedule site work two to three weeks after the contract is awarded. Nelson told the council that mowing must be completed before Sentry begins on-site work and that she will notify the other bidder about the award.
Next steps: staff will transmit the draft ordinance to the town attorney for review and place the ordinance on the October public hearing schedule; contracting and scheduling details will follow after the award process.
