Bluff council approves two-month Zoom trial for meetings and allocates Watts Smart funds to solar installation

The Bluff Town Council unanimously approved two operational items July 15: a trial migration from Google Meet to Zoom for town and planning-and-zoning meetings, and a proposal to deposit a $1,500 Watts Smart incentive check into a fund for installing donated solar panels at the Civic/Cultural Center.
A staff member recommended switching to Zoom because the town already pays for Microsoft subscriptions, Zoom is the industry standard for meeting hosting, and the platform offers better meeting controls and security. "So my recommendation is that we move away from Google entirely... Zoom is kind of industry standard," the staff member said, proposing two paid subscriptions for a two-month trial beginning August 1.
Council voted unanimously to adopt a two-month trial of two Zoom subscriptions; staff will monitor closed-caption accuracy, subscription needs and potential enrollment changes during the trial.
Separately, staff described receiving a $1,500 check from Rocky Mountain Power’s Watts Smart program for energy-audit work. The chair moved to create a revenue stream to pay for installation of donated solar panels at the Civic/Cultural Center; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously. The town will continue to receive Watts Smart payments through project phases and will funnel those funds toward the solar installation.
