Two residents interview for village commissions; appointments set for March 16

Nicholas “Nick” Jorgen and Robert Kaplan appeared before the Village of Hoffman Estates on March 9 to be considered for openings on two advisory commissions, and trustees said they will vote on appointments at the next board meeting on March 16.
Jorgen introduced himself as a longtime area resident who grew up in Northwest Indiana and recently moved to Hoffman Estates with his wife; he said he worked 12 years as a paramedic in Gary and now is an application engineer for IDEX Corporation. "I just wanted to get involved in the town and be part of something," Jorgen said, noting volunteer work on the sister city's French evening as motivation for applying to the Sister Cities Commission. Trustees thanked him for volunteering and said they looked forward to his service.
Robert Kaplan, who identified himself as a local attorney and a three-term commissioner on the Hoffman State Park District, said he wanted to help the village and noted his involvement in community events. "I'd like to just help out the village if I can," Kaplan said. Trustees welcomed Kaplan and reminded him of an upcoming Economic Development Commission meeting on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Both interviews concluded with trustees saying the board would make the appointment at the March 16 meeting and that the applicants would be notified; no formal votes on the appointments were recorded that evening.
