Dorchester County Council approved two community events benefiting Baywater Animal Rescue during its Jan. 7, 2025 meeting.
The Council unanimously approved Airport Director Steve Nuwer’s request to host Wags, Wings and Wheels at the CGE Airport on Aug. 9, 2025 (rain date Aug. 16), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with proceeds to benefit Baywater Animal Rescue and Dorchester County Dog Control. Nuwer said Young Eagles Day will be part of the event. L. Thomas Divilio, president of Baywater Animal Rescue, described the organization as having operated since 1947 and told the Council the shelter’s nine‑year save rate is 98.5%.
The Council also unanimously approved Baywater Animal Rescue’s request to hold its second annual Run Fur Their Lives 5K on Stone Boundary Road on April 19, 2025, from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The minutes record that the organizer, Carly Stockus, must provide a certificate of insurance naming the County as additional insured and coordinate with the Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, Emergency Services and Economic Development prior to the event.
Both approvals were made by motion (Travers) and second (Kramer) and recorded as unanimous. The minutes do not specify event operational details such as traffic control plans, estimated attendance, or permit conditions beyond the insurance and interagency coordination requirements for the 5K.
