Budget workshop questions why public works shows $136,000 surplus while seeking new spending

The commission opened the review of the Public Works budget after manager Al introduced John to summarize the department’s mission, recent accomplishments and the proposed budget. John said the department’s work ranges from median maintenance and tree trimming to storm-preparation and drain cleaning; he described a projected 1% increase in the proposed budget compared with the prior year.
