Hillsdale TIFA seeks new downtown banner designs, discusses Dawn Theater manager RFP and Ferris Street parking concerns

Beautification, program and targeted development committees reported several routine development items at the Jan. 20 Hillsdale TIFA meeting.
The Beautification Committee requested designs for new downtown banners and asked for volunteers to serve on the committee. Members also raised the responsibility for watering downtown flower pots; the board directed staff to get a quote from the Department of Public Services for that service.
The Dawn Theater Governance Board update noted James Brandon and Chris Bahash were not present; Chair Andrew Gelzer provided the update and the board recorded approval of a Folk Festival scheduled for March. The Targeted Development report said the board received three letters of interest for the Dawn Theater manager position and scheduled a meeting for Jan. 22, 2026 to review responses to the RFP language.
The Program Committee reported that outstanding grant applicant projects are now complete and that, after the budget amendment, a small amount of funds remains for the remainder of the fiscal year. During the Economic Development update, Mike Clark reviewed the history of the Ferris Street parking lot and Cindy Bieszk raised concern about the integrity of the staircase railing. No public comment was recorded.
