Early college student praises Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD programs and teachers

Ava, a junior at Early College High School, said the district’s Early College program and her teachers helped her gain confidence and manage both high school and college courses. "I was very unconfident as a freshman," she said. "The early college program was super important for me because I have to manage college classes. I have to manage my high school classes."

She credited the school's staff and leadership with giving her tools to advocate for herself. "My principal, Mister Eiseley, is super big on advocacy and advocating for yourself with the counselors and the teachers," Ava said, adding that having teachers as role models showed her "what a leader looks like and how they act."

Ava pointed to program variety across the district, saying students at Kirkwood can join a law academy and that she progressed through neighborhood schools including Rosemead and Blalak before attending Early College High School. "I think CFB has some really good teachers that have taught me that," she said, and added that those programs let students "get real world, like, experience."
