The Cloud County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 20 to participate in the Rural Opportunity Zone Student Loan Repayment program for calendar year 2026 through Resolution No. 2026-4. Commissioner Dannie Kearn moved the resolution and Commissioner Ron Copple seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The board also approved the hiring of Shelby Newville as an office clerk at the sheriff’s office (position D1), effective Jan. 19, 2026; that motion was made by Commissioner Ron Copple and seconded by Commissioner Dannie Kearn and passed unanimously. The board recognized classification changes promoting Brittany Roush (from Corrections Officer II H1 to Sergeant J1), Elsie Tobald (H2 to J2) and Ian Skalla (H2 to J2), all effective Jan. 25, 2026.
Payroll expenses totaling $189,059.92 were approved, with the following departmental breakdowns reported by the county: General Fund $96,602.99; Road & Bridge $47,993.46; Appraiser $7,478.53; County Health $22,363.26; Noxious Weed $1,565.71; Election $2,416.86; Solid Waste $10,639.11. Payroll deductions and benefits were reported as $223,287.95. The board approved abatements 2026-06, recording a net change of ($20.76) and a refund of $20.76.
Administrative actions taken in the session also included approval of the Jan. 12, 2026 minutes and adjournment at 11:31 a.m.; the meeting was set to reconvene on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.
