Cloud County proclaims February Teen Dating Violence Awareness month; health department gives tuberculosis update

Julie Willoughby of DVACK asked the board to recognize Teen Dating Violence Awareness month. Commissioners unanimously proclaimed February 2025 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and urged citizens to support victims and local service providers.
Health Department Administrator Tonya Sulanka updated the board on a tuberculosis outbreak that began in the Kansas City metro in 2024, saying the general public in Cloud County is at very low risk and that TB is not as easily spread as COVID-19, RSV or seasonal influenza. Sulanka announced the Community Baby Show on March 29 and the Governor's Public Health Conference on March 25-26, and said the health department will not take walk-ins for tetanus, TB testing or vaccines; she also noted pending Medicare audit work and recent revisions to the department's Infection Control Policy and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) procedures.
The board approved a 15-minute executive session to discuss a personnel exception for non-elected staff, with open session to resume at 10:57 a.m., and included Sulanka in that session. The minutes record discussion of the district coroner position with Mitchell County Commissioner Tom Claussen and Dr. David Dupy by conference call but no appointment action.
