Cloud County says KDOC prisoners removed; board approves clerk rehiring and notes change in meal provider

Cloud County Sheriff Ken Davis and Jail Administrator Matt Nevins told the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 3 that Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) prisoners had been removed from the county's Law Enforcement Center, a change the county said will lower meal-contract costs and reduce required staff levels. Nevins and Davis said the Sisters of St. Joseph began providing three meals a day to inmates beginning Feb. 1.
On a motion by Commissioner Ron Copple seconded by Commissioner Dannie Kearn, the board unanimously approved re-hiring Joy Fenske as a sheriff's office clerk effective Feb. 4, 2025, at level D-4. The minutes record the change in detainee status and the new meal provider but do not specify projected dollar savings or staffing reductions beyond a general expected decrease in employees on staff.
The board did not record further policy directions or scheduled follow-up reports on facility population or contracting; the minutes show unanimous support for the personnel action.
