Cloud County approves $22,358 chemical-dependency funding for prevention and treatment

The Cloud County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 3 approved a funding agreement for calendar year 2025 with the Cloud County Chemical Dependency Committee in an amount not to exceed $22,358. Dawn Synder, Community Corrections and Juvenile Services director, told commissioners the county's chemical-dependency funds are derived from local alcohol sales and are allocated 50% for public education and prevention and 25% each to the Addiction Recovery Center and Pawnee Mental Health for indigent counseling and treatment.
The board voted unanimously on a motion by Commissioner Ron Copple, seconded by Commissioner Dannie Kearn, to approve the agreement. Synder described the distribution formula and emphasized that available funding depends on county alcohol sales figures.
The agreement directs local funds to prevention programs and to treatment providers serving low-income residents; the minutes record no dissent or conditions attached to the approval. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2025.
